Tim Ho Wan

December 10, 2013

Baked bun w BBQ pork - 2+

J's comment > the legendary dish @ Tim Ho Wan. Pretty tasty and yes I would order this everytime I go back, but would I go back? Probably not, because I don't think it's worth a 30 min + lineup, nor the stress of getting here in time to beat the line.

Steamed egg cake (ma lai gou) - 2+

J's comment > very light, airy and fluffy; there is a weird-ish 'molasses' taste to it, but from the reviews on the internet that would be the yeast.

Steamed fresh shrimp dumpling (har gao) - 2+

J's comment > as expected of a Michelin star restaurant, the skin stayed intact all the way through (if it didn't, I would have had serious doubts about this Michelin star rating system), but shrimp could have been slightly more flavorful.

Pan fried turnip cake - 1

J's comment > not a fan to begin with, but I thought this might change my mind. This didn't.

Menu

The legendary line-up. @ 11am on a Tuesday morning. We got there at 10:30am and got one of the last seats. Just in time.

Extra Comment
My first Michelin star restaurant review! Although the food was pretty good, I really expected mind-shattering good dim sum. Perhaps the hype was way too high because of the Michelin star...
