Octopus Garden

May 16, 2014

Japanese Wagyu ("Iron show"), 1/4 pound - 3

J's comment > OMG... the wagyu, wagyu... marble beef so tender, soooo tender you hardly have to chew, perfectly seasoned, speechless.

Wagyu cooking in progress

The before shot

Chirashi sushi - 3

J's comment > another OMG moment; I don't remember having raw seafood fresher than tonight; note to self though, request no uni next time (the uni was perfectly fan, just a personal bias against it)

Waru nigiri - 3

J's comment > very fresh; texture like a 'sponge-cake' fish, even more so today

Tamago nigiri - 3

J's comment > a must-have at every visit to Octopus Garden

Spicy Tuna Z: Spicy tuna, tempura bits, mayo & avocado on top - 2

J's comment > not bad; spicy tuna indeed slightly spicy as advertised; could have used a tad more avocado; rice to toppings slightly skewed in favor the rice

Deep fried crispy spot prawn heads - 2

J's comment > loved the crispiness of the legs and the whiskers, but eating the brain part still kinda makes me squeamish (and yet I can inhale chicken feet... go figure)

Maple cream brulee w cinnamon churros & brown butter ice cream - 2

J's comment > not bad; churros very soft; ice cream texture good, but brown butter flavor not as strong as I had hoped; cream brulee was OK but slightly thicker than expected and maple flavor also not very strong
