Corn Croquet / 玉蜀黍コロッケ w corn, morel, cacao, daitokuji natto, peppers, zucchini, spruce shoots - 2+
J's comment > excellent deep frying technique; both the corn croquet and mochi were lightly crisped yet soft in the center; cacao went very well w the croquet and mochi; just the slightest bit greasy though, from the deep frying aspect |

"Minazki" Yuba w eggplant / 水無月湯葉と旬菜, spring onion, nori-fu - 2
J's comment > not bad; another lovely deep fry, this time being the yuba (AKA tofu skin), crispy edges despite floating in the broth; veggies were tender, but didn't really add much; broth a tad salty; unfortunately the star of this dish (the deep fried yuba) was much too similar to the deep fried components of the previous dish, so it was hardly impressive |

Lotus roots rice porridge / 蓮根粥 w nori & pickles - 2
J's comment > not bad; very strong lotus root flavor; porridge consistency very thick; loved the fun factor of adding pieces of nori to stir into the porridge |

June Vegetable Pallet / 七色野菜: Bell pepper, zucchini, blueberry, okura, tomato, potato leaf, nasturtium, kaede-fu, yuzu - 2
J's comment > tender veggies, nice jelly, but nothing spectacular; also really hard to get any veggie w the jelly as the veggies just slithered around |
 |
Complimentary palate cleanser: Ginger soda - 2
J's comment > ginger flavor not too strong, not very bubbly either |

Kajitsu got one Michelin star for 2014... I'm not sure why. For a true (and better) kaiseki experience, I'd rather save up more money and head to Japan. BTW, I knew Kajitsu was a vegetarian restaurant before booking resos, hoping to be impressed and have a change of mind about the vegetarian sector of dining. Ho hum, oh well.
