Guu Otokomae (Gastown)

Maguro w 5 color sauce: Chopped tuna & avocado w teriyaki, wasabi, mango, cucumber & yuzu pepper sauce, topped w green onions, crispy wonton and bean sprouts - 2

J's comment > not bad; tuna fresh and very generous amts of avocado; sauce was OK, but salty - dominant flavor was most definitely the teriyaki and then traces of the other 4 sauces advertised

Tontoro: Grilled pork cheek marinated w sweetened garlic soy sauce - 2

J's comment > texture OK, cooked well but nowhere near as tasty as Dan Japanese's or Rajio's; sauce actually made the dish taste like honey basted grilled chicken wings (except the texture was obviously pork though)

Guuutine: Deep fried yam w teriyaki gravy sauce & cheese in a hot stone bowl - 2

J's comment > yam was on the hard side, really need to drown it in the gravy to soften it up, also surprisingly not sweet like the yam fries you'd expect at a bar; cheese only present visually, hardly any flavor; sauce tad salty

Lamb Hamburg Steak: Minced lamb topped w grated daikon, shiso leaves, green onion and ponzu sauce on iron plate - 2

J's comment > texture fluffy, flavor not too gamey, slightly dry though - funny thing is, it still tasted dry after drowning the pieces you cut off in the ponzu sauce

Halibut Karaage: Deep-fried halibut in a batter w seaweed sauce - 2

J's comment > batter was completely soggy; seaweed sauce was essentially just teriyaki sauce w bits of seaweed on top; fish was OK though

Sesame Rice Cake Ball: Deep-fried balled sticky rice cake w sesame paste filling topped w dried soybean powder & brown sugar syrup - 2

J's comment > deep-fry OK; mochi texture could be stickier; sesame flavor not too strong; syrup not too sweet

Milky almond tofu - 2

J's comment > slightly stiff; almond flavor not too strong
