Beta5 Chocolates - 2014 ice cream social v.4

August 22, 2014

Tropical Sundae: Mango, Tahitian vanilla and coconut rice pudding ice creams w passionfruit curd, mango pearls, coconut meringues, caramelized puffed rice and black tea cakes - 2

J's comment > not bad; very creamy ice creams; mango ice cream flavor definitely the strongest and the best of the bunch, actually the mango flavor was so strong I didn't really get the vanilla nor coconut rice pudding; loved the puffed rice, very thin sheer coating of the caramelization but present for sure, very crisp; didn't get the black tea flavor at all from the cakes, in fact, cakes were a tad hard; didn't get the coconut flavor either in the meringue although the texture was OK, I blame it back on the strength of the mango ice cream

Baked Alaska: Lime curd ice cream, piped onto a graham cracker macaron, dipped in a lime meringue, then roasted to order; a frozen version of key lime pie - 2

J's comment > not bad; exactly as described, a 'frozen version of key lime pie'; lime curd ice cream tart but w the right amt of sweetness to counterbalance; meringue a good soft texture, thankfully no egg white flavor; macaron OK, but didn't get the 'graham cracker' factor; overall, this dessert was slightly one dimensional, it's all 'lime, lime, lime' - you'd better like lime if you're getting this

Extra Comment
And so ends the ice cream socials of the season - unless you're reading this before Aug 23, at which time you still have a chance to catch the very last day on Aug 23 - but can't wait for the croissants and Kouign Amann (better than DKA) to make a comeback in the fall! Rumor has it that the chocolate afternoon tea might be back too!
