Cibo Trattoria

August 18, 2014

Shaved ox tongue w olives, horseradish crème fraiche, radishes - 2+

J's comment > texture was fluffy (yes! really!) and oh-so-thin! flavor of the beef tongue was mild but this actually worked well w the goat cheese (not listed on menu but present nonetheless)

Ravioli w sweet corn & ricotta, golden chanterelles, bone marrow - 2+

J's comment > excellent flavor balance; well thought out dish - loved the fact that you can scoop up a piece of everything presented on the plate (well, except for the ravioli which you have to cut to size) so you can get all the flavors in every spoonful; very creamy (methinks it's the marrow in the sauce); only thing is, the pasta was a tad too al dente for my liking (fresh housemade pasta everyday according to our server), and I would have liked more filling in the ravioli, but other than that, well done

Orecchiette w wild boar sausage, cherry tomatoes, pesto, parmesan - 2+

J's comment > same general comments as the dish above:
excellent flavor balance; well thought out dish - loved the fact that you can scoop up a piece of everything presented on the plate (even the orecciette was the right size for the tomatoes and half of the sausage pieces) so you can get all the flavors in every spoonful; strong cheese flavors; like the ravioli above, the orecchiette was also a tad too al dente for my liking (also freshly made day of), but was just a smidgen softer than the ravioli

Grilled octopus w green onion, cucumbers, chickpeas, black olive salumi - 2

J's comment > not bad; tender octopus, first grilled octopus dish I've had that actually tastes grilled; lovely caramelization on most parts of the octopus except for the parts where it got a bit charred (these were also the bits that were slightly overdone and hence chewier); salumi complemented the octopus well

Complimentary house made parmesan focaccia - 2

J's comment > focaccia dense, not much flavor despite the olive oil and the parmesan

Panna cotta, amaretti, brandy - 2

J's comment > not bad; very soft texture w mild brandy notes (ironic... I complained last dinner service that the brandy was too strong and now it's too mild...); plums were perfectly ripe and so sweet, but might want to peel off the skin as the tartness from same overwhelmed the soft tones of the panna cotta itself

Zeppole - 2

J's comment > not bad; soft texture kinda like a bread pudding on the inside; needs more of the cream filling though, didn't get enough of it to decipher what flavor it was

Marca del Diabolo: Stirred, ice, old fashioned, cazadores reposado tequila, cherry liqueur, hazelnut, lillet, curacao, orange & peach bitters - 2+

J's comment > mild flavors w very light alcohol tones (though I'm sure the bartender didn't cut back on the 'dosage'); very easy to drink
