Daily special: Rabbit Liver Pate toast - 2
J's comment > not bad; hint of sweetness, creamy |
Catalan tomato bread, jamon, fried quail's eggs - 2
J's comment > not bad; loved the crispness of the bread; flavors OK, but definitely not the Spanish style made tomato bread (or so I was informed by a dining partner at our table who used to live in Spain) |
Crispy squid w mint yoghurt, tomato jam - 2
J's comment > not bad; more batter than squid, but the batter was very crisp; loved the dip, not too minty actually, but slightly spicy, not exactly the best dip for the squid, but tasty nevertheless even on its own |
Crispy skin chicken w chickpeas cooked in saffron & tomato harissa yoghurt, baharat - 2
J's comment > not bad; skin crispy as advertised; meat juicy; didn't get much of the middle eastern flavors though, there was some, yes, but it was more like a glorified fried chicken |
Grilled octopus & chorizo w black barley salad, caperberries, piquillo peppers, basil aioli - 2
J's comment > grilled octopus to grilled octopus, Cibo takes this round hands down; whilst the octopus was cooked well, there wasn't much flavor to it, and the supporting cast of barley, peppers, etc were just plain boring |
Avocado salad w murcia, hazelnuts, blueberries, quince, ras el hanout - 2
J's comment > same thoughts as the fried chicken above: a glorified dish of salad fronds and slices of a ripe avocado |
Grilled swordfish w poor man's potatoes, piquillo pepper & anchovy sauce - 2
J's comment > texture of swordfish was more like a steak than fish, very dense; didn't really taste much at all actually, the flavor was all from the pepper & anchovy sauce, which was more like a tomato sauce than any anchovy or pepper really |
Daily special: Roasted ling cod - 2
J's comment > crisped skin; fish moist; broth OK; a well cooked fish dish, but unfortunately forgettable |
Grilled spiced lamb w turkish chopped salad, garlic yoghurt, caramelized butter, za'tar - 2
J's comment > lamb meatballs slightly overcooked; flavors passable, but didn't exactly meld; ingredients sound good in theory, but wasn't as cohesive on the dish |
Catalan Greens: Wilted greens, pinenuts & raisins - 2
J's comment > AKA boiled spinach w pinenuts and raisins - tasted exactly like it reads |
Daily special: Ox heart - 1
J's comment > very gamey and lean, texture dense |
Alvear Solera Cream sherry - 2
J's comment > not bad; strong chocolate notes, but menu listed the primary notes as burnt orange and figs and raisins which I didn't get |
Alhambra 1925 Reserva - 2
J's comment > not too hoppy; your avg beer |
