Hawker's Market: August 16, 2014

August 16, 2014

Crispy Pork & Peach Bao: Crispy New Town bakery bao, slow braised Gelderman Farms pork, Okanagan peaches - 2

J's comment > not bad; more of a pulled pork than 'crispy pork' as advertised, but the pork presented was juicy and flavorful; peaches were a nice sidekick but not exactly necessary, not too sweet, a good soft texture; bun was deep fried well, giving off a thin crust

The Lemon Square

Lemon square samples - 2

J's comment > not bad; good balance on the sweet and tart notes; texture on the soft side; liked the slight coconut crunch/chew

Sweet Petite Confectioner

OMB Bar Experience: Earl grey marshmallow torched on top of a brownie - 2

J's comment > not bad; strong earl grey flavor in the marshmallow, brownie very sweet though; this confection was like sugar on crack (sorry, forgot to take a picture of the after-torch - the paper caught on fire as the torching started and I got a bit distracted...)

Trishaw Foods Singapore

Curry noodle w chicken - 2

J's comment > not bad; tasty curry (spicy though!); tender chicken (but wished there was more) esp in ratio to the ginormous amt of noodles

Livia Sweets

Cocho-Tacos: Salted caramel - 2

J's comment > kinda like an ice cream sandwich but w a thin (almost) crisp crepe-like waffle taco shell; shell soaked up a bit of the moisture from the gelato on the inside and so wasn't as crisp as intended; gelato OK, decent salted caramel flavor

The Salty Cookie Co

Salty brown sugar - 2

Brown butter chip chocolate chip - 2

Spicy ginger molasses - 2

J's comment > all cookies were soft; the ginger molasses had the strongest advertised flavor; didn't really get the chocolate chip in the chocolate chip one, but then again these were mini-bite sized samples so maybe I just didn't get a choc chip in my square; despite the name of the cookie company, these cookies weren't salty

O5 Tea

#72 Darjeeling kombucha - 2

J's comment > not bad; very slightly sweet; easy to drink; tea flavor evident

Cold brew coffee - 2

J's comment > smooth and creamy; reminiscent of the one I tried from the Jamaica Blue Coffee @ the Food Cart Fest in the Olympic Village, but this had less of a bitter after taste
