La Buca

Lobster, scallop & wild shrimp risotto, fresh corn, fava beans - 2

J's comment > not bad; well cooked risotto, slightly firm, not mushy in the least; scallops and shrimp well cooked, fresh-tasting and firm; subtle but apparent corn flavors - the texture of the risotto went very well w the corn flavors, almost tricking the mind into thinking that it was corn niblets you were munching on

Ricotta and truffle tortellini with smoked prosciutto and sage butter - 2

J's comment > not bad; tortellini pasta a tad al dente; strong butter flavors; ricotta, truffle and prosciutto flavors very subtle

Grilled rack of lamb, pesto crushed fingerlings, fried olives, spicy herb & garlic vinaigrette - 2

J's comment > not bad; tender and well cooked lamb; well done but not extraordinary

Veal shortribs, lobster & spring onion mashed potato, spinach, heirloom carrots - 2

J's comment > not bad; meat so tender that it fell off the bone; well done but not extraordinary

Crisp roasted Cornish hen, ragu of vegetables & gnocchi, chicken jus, olive oil, herbs - 2

J's comment > only white meat provided and as such was a tad dry; skin very crisp though; gnocchi melts in your mouth

Fish of the day: Rockfish, clams, tomato broth - 2

J's comment > fish cooked well, tender and flaky; well done but not extraordinary; clams had that 'detergent' flavor that I think represents freshness, but which I'm definitely not game for

Complimentary breadsticks - 2

J's comment > crisp but floury

Chocolate flourless cake w honeycomb - 2

J's comment > not bad; very decadent, rich, heavy (for sure), but moist and creamy; loved the crispness of the honeycombs and the fluffiness of the whip on the side; well-balanced

Olive oil cake - 2

J's comment > not bad; strong olive oil flavors; tad dense; the sauce suggested other flavors than just olive oil, but all I tasted was olive oil; good, but I think Ask for Luigi's is just a smidgen better

Zeppolini - 2

J's comment > not bad; light and fluffy donuts, reminiscent of Bao Bei's Youtiao (chinese donuts); sauce was OK, but cinnamon sprinkles overwhelmed all the other flavors

Vanilla panna cotta w blueberry compote - 2

J's comment > not bad; decent flavor but texture on the stiff side; loved the blueberry compote, not too sweet and juicy blueberries; again, Ask for Luigi's has a slightly better version
