Double Double / 老油條大牌檔

September 1, 2014

#1 Salted chinese donut (youtiao) - 2

J's comment > not bad; fluffy and airy, not too greasy; was served at room temp though, would have like to try it fresh out of the fryer; Bao Bei's was slightly better, though not exactly the traditional youtiao

#95 Wontons in chili oil, soy sauce & peanut sauce - 2

J's comment > not bad; generous portion of tender & crisp shrimp in the wonton; light and slippery wrapper, exactly the way I like my wrappers; not spicy at all; good balance of the soy and peanut sauces, but would have liked a smidgen stronger peanut flavor

#77 BBQ duck noodle (super sized) - 2

J's comment > not sure what was so 'super sized' about this bowl of noodles, if anything, there was less noodles in this bowl than the one below; BBQ duck was tasty though albeit the soggy duck skin

#72 Beef brisket noodle in soup - 2

J's comment > brisket tender; flavors OK, not too salty; noodles slightly al dente but expected for this type of noodle

#129 Crispy sweet & sour pork - 2

J's comment > not exactly 'crispy' as advertised, but still a good fry; pork tender and not fatty; good balance of the sweet and sour flavors

#2 Sweet chinese donut - 2

J's comment > not as fluffy as the youtiao above but not dense either; not too sweet

#33 Dried fish & peanuts congee (bowl) - 1

J's comment > really stinky fish! I absolutely could not eat this
