My Shanti

September 28, 2014

Awadhi 1/2 chicken korma - 2+

J's comment > very tender and juicy chicken w excellent grill flavor; curry OK, but chicken best on its own; save the curry for the rice

Naan - 2+

J's comment > extremely fluffy and light

Chhatra Sagar’s wild boar kebabs w South Indian chutney - 2

J's comment > not bad; kinda like an Indian version of the chorizo but not spicy; no filling (eg. bread, etc.), pure boar and spices

Peruvian/Indian shrimp & local fish ceviche in a gol gappa - 2

J's comment > a good blend, the shrimp and the gol gappa (the crisp puff) needing that shot of ceviche jus underneath for the well-balanced meld; in theory and on the palate a good combo, but somehow just misses the mark of being remarkable

Cumin rice - 2

J's comment > cumin flavor not too strong; rice tasted slightly unwashed

Chhatra Sagar's grilled baby eggplants w mango powder & chilies - 2

J's comment > eggplants firmer than expected and preferred; didn't get the mango powder; not spicy as suggested; the caramelized onions and peppers in the centre were much tastier than the eggplant

Complimentary chips - 2

J's comment > very crisp though a tad denser than I like (I prefer the Chinese shrimp chips' fluffiness)

Tandoori roti - 2

J's comment > definitely not the Malaysian roti canai; dense and much firmer than the naan

Almond & pistachio fudge, coconut cream - 2+

J's comment > shockingly light and refreshing despite being a fudge w notoriously heavy coconut cream

Mango lassi - 2

J's comment > mango puree w strong notes of the sour yogurt; slightly sour

Honey saffron lassi - 2

J's comment > strong saffron notes w trace honey; more sour yogurt than the honey

Curry leaves masala lassi - 1

J's comment > salty and sour... not a fan; our server was a dear and took this off our bill when we advised her that it wasn't quite what we expected; FYI, curry leaves don't taste like curry and are kinda like basil or keffir leaves, but I didn't get anything other than the salt and sourness of the yogurt, maybe a touch of the masala
