CRAFT Beer Market feat. Central City & Parallel 49 Beer Advent Calendar

October 29, 2014

Brief Note from J
Hugs & thanks to Central City Brewers, Parallel 49 & Yvonne for the invite to sample the two collaboration beers, the Belgian Dubbel Trubbel and Schwarzwald Chocolate Cherry Porter. These two beers can be found somewhere in the 24-pack of the Holiday Beer Advent Calendar, but how to figure out which day it's in? You're gonna have to crack open a bottle each day leading up to Christmas!

Guests also had the opportunity to snack on some appies @ Craft, where the event was being held. My reviews below:

Central City’s Belgian Dubbel Trubbel - 2

J's comment > not bad; very easy to drink beer; not hoppy at all

From the words of Central City:
Central City’s Dubbel Trubbel, is a classic Belgian Brown ale made with a world famous Belgian Abbey yeast. This collaborative brew between Central City and Parallel 49 breweries has an added twist with the infusion of rum soaked raisins. This ale has a lot of body with chocolate and rum notes, with the added esters from the yeast.

Parallel 49’s Schwarzwald Chocolate Cherry Porter - 2

J's comment > definite notes of chocolate and cherry, a sweeter porter than others I've had in the past; another easy to drink beer although I'm not partial to sweet beers

From the words of Parallel 49:
Parallel 49’s collaborative beer, the Schwarzwald Chocolate Cherry Porter, is modeled after the Black Forest region of Germany known for its clocks, cakes, and tales of Hansel & Gretel giving a witch her "just deserts". This Black Forest cake inspired brew is filled with cocoa nibs and cherries, for a sweet fairy tale ending.

Shame there wasn't one on site to take a pic of, but there would have probably been a stampede ;D

And now onto the food from Craft:

Wings: 1lb of crispy Rossdown Farms chicken wings tossed in salt and pepper - 2

J's comment > well cooked, served piping hot, on the juicy side; flavor balance OK (neither too salty nor peppery) but would have liked a touch more meat on the wings; slightly crisp but could be even crisper

Hawaiian Ahi Poke: Chopped sashimi grade tuna, cucumber, fresh ginger, garlic and sesame soya vinaigrette served w crispy wontons - 2

J's comment > tuna fresh, not fishy at all on its own but somehow it just turned fishy when eaten w the cucumber; wontons very crisp but a real hassle to try and scoop up the tuna with; best to just pick out the tuna on its own, have the crisps, and then polish off the cucumber

Red Racer IPA infused Taquitos: Rossdown Farms chicken, beans, poblano peppers & corn, served w CRAFT signature hot sauce - 2

J's comment > very soft taquitos w a slight crisp exterior from the deep fry factor; kinda like deep fried mozzarella sticks; chicken present but could have gone either with or without; hot sauce definitely spicy

Margherita Pizza: Fresh mozzarella, basil, roma tomatoes and shaved garlic - 2

J's comment > very bready crust, needs a lot more toppings, esp cheese

Pesto Pizza - 2

J's comment > same comment as above; pesto sauce could be bolder flavored as well
