Morocco West

October 18, 2014

Lamb Couscous: Ras-el-hanout braised lamb, root vegetables, chickpeas, onion confit, raisins, Moroccan jus - 2

J's comment > lamb tender and flavorful but flavor could be even bolder; couscous cooked well, not lumpy or soggy, just the right amt of fluffiness w the jus; could have used a tad more raisins

Duck a l’orange w red wine braised cabbage - 2

J's comment > duck cooked well in the center, but a tad overcooked on the sides, still, not chewy at all; good flavor; cabbage was just cabbage though (soft, but well, not much more to it)

Chicken Couscous: Saffron chicken, chickpeas, onion confit, raisins, Moroccan jus - 2

J's comment > chicken OK, slightly overcooked and firmer than I like; same jus and couscous as the lamb above

Chicken Tajine: Olives, preserved lemon, carmelized onion, pomme frites, saffron jus - 2

J's comment > same comment on the chicken as above, but the just in this one was definitely on the lemon-y side as advertised; pomme frites tasted like the stuff out of the bag from a supermarket; very strong saffron flavors

Mystery chicken - 2

J's comment > this was on the house after my complaint about the beef ribs below; flavor similar to the chicken tajine above, but not exactly the same; texture though was on par - firm and slightly overcooked

Meat Sampler: Chef’s selection, beef ribs, quail, lamb, beef meatballs - 1

J's comment > everything on this plate was dry and overcooked with the exception of the lamb which was OK (this was the same lamb as the one at the top); I advised our server when asked 'how are things?' and got a sub (the chicken above)

Complimentary after dinner p'tit fours madelaines - 2

J's comment > slightly too much sugar dusting, but texture and flavor of madelaine passable

Hoegaarden beer - 2

J's comment > easy to drink beer

Grapefruit juice - 2

J's comment > slightly watered down, had all the bitters of a grapefruit, not enough sweetness

Hop Circle IPA beer - 1

J's comment > as the name indicates, really hoppy, not a fav
