O Grill Yakiniku / 炎燒日式燒烤

October 17, 2014

Toro beef - 2

J's comment > not bad; very thinly sliced, but well cut, not chewy or stringy at all; not as fatty as it looks (the fat shrinks a lot)

Premium short ribs - 2

J's comment > not bad; very thinly sliced, but well cut, not chewy or stringy at all; slightly leaner than the toro above hence the slightly lower preference for me

Toro beef steak - 2

J's comment > exact same meat as the toro beef above, but a thicker cut; thicker cut was a tad chewier, I like my yakiniku slices thin, thinner the better

Premium rib steak - 2

J's comment > exact same meat as the premium short ribs above, but a thicker cut; thicker cut was a tad chewier, I like my yakiniku slices thin, thinner the better

Pork Jowl - 2

J's comment > slightly firm and crisp; a much thicker cut than the other protein options above

Pumpkin croquette - 2

J's comment > not bad; excellent fry, very crisp exterior w soft mash-potato like pumpkin center but of course w pumpkin flavor; interesting addition of the egg, could have gone either with or without same

Sweet potato ball - 2

J's comment > not bad; soft and chewy like mochi; would have preferred a stronger sweet potato flavor

Yam fries - 2

J's comment > slightly crisp on the exterior but leaned towards the soft side, esp in the center

Complimentary chicken soup - 1

J's comment > bland; tasted like slightly salted water

Mochi - 2

J's comment > lots of fun factor trying to grill the mochi without burning it (trick is to keep rolling it around); condensed mild and peanuts passable dip, but would have been so much better w the traditional Japanese way, seaweed & slightly sweet soy sauce

Peanut butter, banana & nutella crepe - 1

J's comment > crepe overcooked, slightly hard crepe; not much nutella nor pb flavor, just a whole lot of banana
