Sprinkles in Beverly Hills

November 16, 2014

Mini Rant
Having had Sprinkles at 2 different branches in NYC and having found BOTH locations offering super amazing cupcakes, forgive me for thinking that the cupcakes at the source of this cupcake chain would be just as good, if not better. It was miserable. The most avg cupcakes you can imagine, not awful per se, but when you are expecting the best (yes, Sprinkles in NYC ARE the best cupcakes I've ever had) and you get the regular run of the mill stuff under the same brand, something is seriously wrong. In fact, its was so depressing that I have to rate the ice cream higher than the cupcakes.

Oh, and my favorite, the strawberry cupcake wasn't even available. That should have warned me that this was not going to go well. Anyways, without further ado, my reviews below:

Salted caramel ice cream - 2

J's comment > good salted caramel flavor, but nothing unusual here

When things looked promising

Red Velvet: Southern style light chocolate cake w cream cheese frosting - 2

J's comment > slightly moist, the 'best' of the pack (although w such avg competition it wasn't hard to be 'best'); strong chocolate flavor, much stronger than other red velvets, but frosting didn't have much cream cheese flavor actually

Salted Caramel - 2

J's comment > firm, dry and almost bland, although the salted caramel flavor was on the strong side; if you're looking for a salted caramel confection though, stick w the ice cream

Peanut butter - 2

J's comment > one more time... firm, dry and almost bland, but like the salted caramel, pb flavor was on the strong side although not quite moist enough to overcome the dryness of the cupcake base itself

Smore - 2

J's comment > one last time... firm, dry and almost bland, but w a touch of the marshmallow flavor in the frosting which wasn't too strong flavored

The faux rows of goodness

Extra Comment
FYI, I asked for and got a refund. That's how choked I was. Just to compare as the locals crown Crumbs as the better cupcake, I just had to try it. Post coming soon.
